Fundraising Goal: Nintendo Switch
Recreation is a vital part of the youth center; it’s what initially draws kids inside our doors. We have a workout area full of weight lifting machines, cardio machines, and hand weights, but we are always striving to update our offerings. Recreation provides kids with a great outlet to unleash stress and anger as well give mental clarity and relaxation- keys to unlocking a more prosperous future.
For 2022 we are hoping to raise the funds to acquire some new pieces of recreational equipment to keep our kids engaged and excited! This month we have been highlighting some of our dream pieces of equipment like the Ergatta Rower, two NordicTrack s22i stationary bikes, and a Pro-Form Carbon Hiit H7! This week we are highlighting a piece of recreational equipment that might be more familiar to many of you-- the Nintendo Switch!
The Nintendo Switch is a gaming system that offers a wide variety of fitness and STEAM games for the kids to utilize. Believe it or not video games actually teach kids problem solving skills, improve coordination and memory, and enhance multitasking skills. Video games can also boost creativity and social skills! Many Nintendo Switch games will also get our kids moving, get their brains turning, and offer opportunities to collaborate. Some games we are looking to get are the Ring Fit Adventure— packed with fitness activities, Zumba and Boxing to get their heart rates up, and a number of team building games (even some MarioKart for some good old fashioned competition). Over time, we hope to acquire even more activities like the Labo Robot Building opportunities! The possibilities are endless with such a versatile system, and this is a fun and relevant way to get the kids involved and excited about fitness and education!
To acquire all of the pieces and activities we are looking for, we plan to raise funds over 2022 and beyond. To start, we will need to purchase a smart TV and a TV stand to create a gaming area for these activities to take place. In addition, we will need the gaming system, multiple controllers, a handful of fitness attachments, and a variety of games. Eventually we hope to include a few other systems like the Xbox and Playstation, which also provide opportunities for fun, recreation, and collaboration. The items starred below are our primary focus to acquire in 2022-- the Smart TV, TV Stand, and The Nintendo Switch will cost us about $3,450. Once we have the equipment, we will begin raising funds for the most impactful activities and games-- a total goal of $6,260 over the next few years. Again, we don’t expect to have every game and item on our wish list in 2022, but we’d love to get the ball rolling to gain as many items as possible. Below, we’ve listed out some of the pricing we’ve researched, and the items with a * are the priority.

GenZ gets a bad (and honestly not fully valid) reputation for being anti-social with their faces in their phones and locked into screens...and while we always encourage the kids to interact the “old fashioned” way together, we also can’t deny the benefits of some of this technology. Most of our members will go on to use technology every single day in their career of choice, or personal lives. At the YC we strive to provide technology that is educational, collaborative, gets them moving, and at the end of the day-- is fun!
